Cost of Living

We know that students are feeling the pressure from increasing living expenses. This is leading to an impact on mental health, progression with studies, and your daily life. As your Officer team and Students’ Union we believe that we can help by working with the University, supporting national campaigns, and ensuring students have access to further financial support. Our goal at BCUSU is to make sure you get the support you need during your time here. Here's some information on the work currently being undertaken:

We supported the idea of low-cost meals for those on campus. Details on how to access free food and £1 meals can be found here.

Financial Assistance Fund

We are working with the University to make changes to the fund to ensure it helps those most in need. The Financial Assistance Fund will open for applications in November, you can find our advice on how to apply here.

Your Officer Team recently signed the National Union of Students’ (NUS) open letter to the government. We feel it’s time for us to do something about this, which is why we are asking you to sign their petition too. One City is a collective of the Students’ Unions in Birmingham. Together we have contacted National Express to ask for cheaper bus fares for students.
